LaTina Young
Assisted Living Director, Carriage Court of Grove City
Many of our nomination forms for this year’s Heart of Caring award truly speak for themselves. Today’s featured nominee is one such case, and we’re honored to celebrate LaTina Young the way her coworkers chose to recognize her.
“LaTina Young doesn’t just embrace the Core Values, she lives the core values daily at Carriage Court of Grove City. And she has been living the core values daily at Carriage Court for the last 8 years! Although we use CHART as the order to describe our values, for LaTina, the H for Honesty would be listed first. She is the most authentic and honest person, professionally and personally, you will ever meet…LaTina became a nurse, because she cares. She cares about her employees, she cares about her residents, and she cares about their families. The number of residents, staff, and families she has positively impacted with her honesty and care throughout her 8 years is immeasurable.”
“She keeps residents, families, and team members laughing all day. If it is not the best thing for the residents, then LaTina will not agree to it…She watches over their health, keeps the team’s priorities in check, and puts the residents’ happiness and health above all else. If something needs LaTina’s attention, no matter day or night… or even middle of the night… LaTina is there…Likewise, when a peer or teammate needs help, she is always there to assist. She believes in teamwork and pitching in for the benefit of the residents. She constantly says ‘I want to know for a FACT that MY PEOPLE are taken care of!'”
“Before LaTina went to nursing school and found Carriage Court (or rather, Carriage Court found LaTina!), she was an Adult Day Care activities assistant. She realized she had a passion for helping people and began nursing school. LaTina started at Carriage Court as a part time LPN 8 years ago. She worked multiple jobs, went to school to become an RN, and was raising her 6 children all at the same time! She grew to love the team and the residents at Carriage Court and her part time dedication turned into a full time passion (as she still raised 6 kids, worked other jobs, AND continued school!) LaTina, even though she has more on her plate than the average person, would come to work and be so dedicated, so humorous, and such a breath of fresh air when she was at work. Three years ago, when we had the position Assisted Living Director come available, there was no better choice than LaTina. She has helped foster the careers of caregivers going to nursing school, to then be promoted within the facility. She encourages all of the team members to pursue education and continue to better themselves and their careers.”
In the words of one of the families whose mother LaTina cares for, “My only regret looking back, was that I didn’t move my mom to Carriage Court to be under the care of LaTina SOONER.” What an incredible testimony to all LaTina does, and a very well-deserved nomination. Congratulations, LaTina!
