Our Heart of Caring nomination process restricts nominators to one form where they’re asked to describe the nominee using a set of four questions. Many do their best to summarize incredible stories, but for nominees like Karen Davison-Ebertsch, sometimes the stories are just too numerous to fit into a few lines.
“Karen is the true meaning of our core values. She embraces them and encourages others, as well.”
“So many residents have a special relationship with Karen. The first resident is someone who recently moved into the community and was having a difficult time adjusting. Karen took her under her wing and found out her interest and learned they were arts and crafts. They both started to come up with ideas and now she has the resident teaching arts and crafts for the other residents…the resident informed me that until Karen arrived, she was giving up, and how thankful she is that Karen is here.”
There’s more where that story came from. Residents and coworkers alike recognized Karen for her ability to connect with residents, build a relationship and support them as they pursue their passions.
“Karen learned another resident without vision used to enjoy cooking and he couldn’t do it anymore. Karen was able to apply removable dots to the numbers on the microwave and worked with the resident; now he is able to warm things up and be a little more independent.”
“There are so many lovely stories to share, and her kindness and sincere love for the residents are endless. She is a true Heart of Caring winner and I couldn’t think of anyone who deserves this award more than Karen.”
Stories like these are what make choosing our eventual six winners so wonderfully challenging. Congratulations on the nomination, Karen; thank you for all you do to care for the residents whose lives you have so clearly impacted for the better.
